What does Quality Mark mean?

The QM award demonstrates that agencies and local authorities have met a national standard by operating a robust recruitment selection and vetting process when engaging supply teachers. In doing so it gives increased confidence to schools, parents and pupils that staff supplied through them are recruited in line with the DCSF guidance and current legislation requirements.

The Quality Mark scheme sets 19 standards covering the way that supply teachers are recruited, selected and supplied to schools.

To achieve QM status applicants undergo a rigorous application process including a comprehensive on site audit. A further audit is carried out every two years to offer continued assurance that standards are being maintained.

Cover and the Quality Mark

Cover joined the REC and was awarded the DCSF Quality Mark in November 2006. In addition the company was audited successfully by the Criminal Records Bureau. This represents Cover’s continuing drive to stay at the forefront of independent agencies in the region. In November 2008 Cover was audited by the REC QM team and received the following feedback:

'‘Maintaining the Quality Mark status acknowledges the dedication and professionalism that go into ensuring these stringent standards of compliance are met on a daily basis and it is obvious that you have worked particularly hard both maintaining and raising standards in the provision of supply. Of the files we sampled we are pleased to report 100% accuracy in recruitment, selection and vetting.’
